Tomorrow, Dries Buytaert (a Java geek who has written his own WCMS in php) is doing his unofficial PhD defense on Profiling techniques for Java performance analysis and optimization.

End of February 2008 --- http://Fosdem.org in Brussels Belgium. Joeri has just launched a call for action to gather as many drupal developers into one of the fosdem developer rooms. For those non-belgian drupal-lovers, yet another great excuse to visit the Capital of Europe.

In navolging van onze Drupal Summer School in Brussel organiseren we dit jaar nog 2 Community Sessions en 1 Drupal Development Day in Gent. Community Session #1: Drupal geïnstalleerd, wat nu?

De resultaten van de laatste radrace http://www.itprofessional.be/news.cfm?id=74769&p=2 tonen aan dat java en .net steeds dichter naar elkaar toe groeien en dat het de aanpak en kennis van de ontwikkelaars zelf is die het verschil maakt. Een stelling waarin ik me heel goed kan vinden. Elke framework/taal heeft zijn pro's en con's en de religieuse discussies die enkele jaren nog 'bon ton' waren zijn ondertussen al helemaal niet meer relevant. Zoals steeds draait het om de communicatie en technische skills van de Mensen, en niet van de tools.

Een kind kost van geboorte tot 18jaar +/- 160.000€. Ik heb er drie aangekocht voor een totaal bedrag van 480.000€. Voor dat bedrag koopt een ander in villa in Vlaams-Brabant of een Herenhuis in centrum Antwerpen, maar hieronder vind je de diashow die ik gekregen heb van mijn vader en gepost heb op Slideshare. Blader er even door en dan weet je waarom ik liever 3 kids heb dan een herenhuis.

This looks very promising, especially combined with some skype/netmeeting software to do online realtime presentation.

Still have to figure out how they deal with integrations. Some questions that pop up..

For those who don't know what dabble DB is. In short: it's a web2.0 application that provides a mixture of the functionalities provided by a spreadsheet, a database and a reporting engine.
I've been using it as a way to collaboratively track and record the 3000+ members of an NGO.

Basically the work flow was.
1. Import an excel file with 3000+ rows and 20 colums into dabbleDB
2. Follow the DabbleDB guidelines to normalize the table into user-profile, cities, functions, membership, ...

For a client i needed to investigate S3 storage for a drupal media site. A 30 minutes job i figured.
Basically i just needed to see how to install it, check if all drivers were installed and check how we should configure it for the site they needed.

After 3 hours of 'working' i still hadn't configured anything although i worked very hard.
